Putin appoints anti-terror crusade agencies

President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, "On the Central Bodies of the Russian Federation, Responsible for the Implementation of the Shanghai Convention on Efforts Against Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism", report Kremlin PR.

The responsibility is placed on the Federal Security Service, the Interior Ministry, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Federal Bodyguard Service, the Defence Ministry, the federal Prosecutor-General's office, and the Financial Monitoring Committee.

The Shanghai Convention on Efforts Against Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism was adopted June 15, 2001. The State Duma, Russia's lower parliamentary house, and the Federation Council, upper house, ratified it, December 20 and 27, 2002, respectively. President Putin signed the federal ratification law, January 10, 2003.
