Terrorist attack in Tel Aviv

A terrorist attack on a bus in Tel Aviv has killed at least five people and injured 60 on Thursday morning (14.00 MSK), according to first reports from the area. Eye-witnesses claim it was an action by a suicide bomber.

The bomber carried out the attack at lunch hour, a time when numerous workers leave their offices and factories to have lunch in the city’s bars and restaurants. Bus number 4 from the Dan cooperative was in Allenby Street in front of the Great Synagogue, when the explosion occurred.

This is the second suicide attack by terrorists in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, a suicide bomber blew himself up near a group of policemen before he was able to board a bus in Um al-Fahm, northern Israel.

Islamic Jihad is thought to be behind this latest wave of attacks, after six weeks of calm.
