World Bank to fund modernisation of education system in Samara region

A delegation of the World Bank (International Bank of Reconstruction and Development), headed by Director of the World Bank in Russia Julian Schweizer, arrived in the Samara Region yesterday. The delegation will be shown the education system in the region before the project Reform of the education system, which is being financed by a loan from the bank, is implemented.

As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the press office of the governor of Samara, the project will begin in June. The main aim of the project is to achieve a higher quality of education by improving the organisation of finances and other resources within the regional education system. The project should ensure that different schools in the cities and rural areas of the region all have equal access to educational funds and resources and make sure that students leaving colleges and universities meet the demands of the labour-market.

The Samara administration was asked by the Russian government to pilot the project Reform of the education system. The World Bank is providing a loan of USD 50 million to implement the project. The Samara Region will receive a loan of USD 16.8 million for a 17-year period.
