Vladimir Putin: Russia assured by Iran that it does not plan to develop nuclear arms

Russia has been assured by Iran that it had no plans to develop nuclear arms, President Vladimir Putin said.

"Two days ago I spoke by telephone with [President of Iran Mohammed] Khattami on his request, and he confirmed to me once again that Iran had no plans to develop nuclear arms," the Russian President said at a news conference in Moscow.

Moreover, he said, the Iranian leadership is prepared to join in full measure all IAEA protocols and demands that would require control over its nuclear programs.
