Russia's Rostov fights dangerous enteroviral infection

In Russia's Rostov-on-Don, large-scale activities are held to combat the spread of the enteroviral infection in the region. Over 30 people have been hospitalized with life-threatening symptoms since the beginning of June.

To prevent an outbreak of the disease, the city authorities ordered to disinfect almost all crowded areas and places of congregation. More than 200 voluntary organizations help public services disinfect markets, bus stops, handrails in public transport and playgrounds. Preventive maintenance is conducted every day, but risks of infection are still high, experts say.

The majority of citizens neglect basic safety rules and continue to swim in stagnant waters, contrary to recommendations of virologists. To protect, residents, most popular fountains in the city had to be deactivated.
