Hernan Etchaleco: Probable connection between Al-Qaeda and terrorist attacks in Buenos Aires

Al-Qaeda, the terrorist organization commanded by Osama bin Laden, claimed responsibility on terrorist attack on a Jewish building in Buenos Aires in 1995. This information has been provided by Juan Jose Echegoyen, an Argentinean diplomatic who is in charge of business affairs at the Argentina embassy at Saudi Arabia.

According to local press, the Argentinean embassy received on September 20, 23, and 24 three consecutive phone calls, duly recorded, where a man said in Arabic

- "We assume the responsibility of the explosion in Argentina"

- "Something terrible will happen in the United States on Tuesday September 26th "

- "Al-Qaeda"

Messages passed down from the embassy to the Foreign Office in Buenos Aires; from there, to the local intelligence department and then to the US services, whom considered the threats, seriously. By that time, the FBI linked the information to the attack to the USS Cole in Yemen, on October 12th 2000.

The above has been released to the press as part of the on going trial in Buenos Aires in respect of the terrorist attack on a Jewish building in Buenos Aires in 1995.
