The world community must concentrate on developing a strategy of overcoming the causes underlying terrorism, Alexander Yakovenko, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RIA Novosti before the UN Security Council meeting of foreign ministers in New York on anti-terrorist problems.
"Uprooting of terrorism requires a comprehensive approach, in which the use of force, political and diplomatic moves, and economic and humanitarian actions are combined," Yakovenko said.
"The urgent task is to ensure stable development of all regions in the world, to deepen the social aspect in the globalization process," he pointed out.
In the opinion of the Russian leadership, "factors that stimulate the spread of terrorism, such as unjustified economic and political isolation of a state according to arbitrary criteria determining whether its ruling regime is "disagreeable" or not and the policy of ousting such states from the system of international relations" require, in the opinion of Moscow, "the closest attention and definite counteractions."
"Overcoming poverty and formation of a stable and fair international financial and economic system also can greatly strengthen the efforts of the international community to form an effective strategy of combating terrorism and countering other challenges and threats confronting mankind in the 21st century," the diplomat said.
