Rushailo: New tax, customs, license regimes are needed to attract investments to Siberia

New tax, customs and license regimes have to be considered for the sake of attracting investments to Siberia, Vladimir Rushailo, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, announced in Novosibirsk while summing up the results of a conference dedicated to the government's effort to ensure economic and public security in the Siberian Federal District.

According to Rushailo, the district's development is impeded by a number of serious problems, one of them being an imbalance between Siberia's vast resources potential on the one side and its scarce population and underdeveloped infrastructure on the other. Other problems include low investment activity in the real economic sector and the fact that the rate of aging of fixed assets in industry, agriculture and other spheres is faster than their replacement.

Participants in the conference also focused on social and healthcare problems, migration, public and border security.

Leonid Drachevsky, the president's plenipotentiary in the Siberian Federal District, says discussions of the district's economic security are part of the government-approved Strategy of Economic Development of Siberia.

The Russian Security Council is gathering for a session in June to consider national security problems in the Siberian Federal District.
