Nearly thousand people will be involved in amnesty in Chechnya

Amnesty in Chechnya will involve nearly a thousand people including 300 military men from federal forces, presidential representative in the State Duma Alexander Kotenkov informed deputies during the discussion of the Russian President's draft decree concerning amnesty.

The amnesty will be only valid for those who committed socially dangerous acts on the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the period from December 12th 1993 till the day when the State Duma decree "On amnesty in connection with the adoption of the Chechen Constitution" comes into force, he stressed.

"Terrorists as well as those who took hostages, committed bandit acts and stole weapons will not be amnestied," Mr. Kotenkov stated.

Military men, Interior Ministry officers as well as representatives of the criminal and executive system will be amnestied if they did not commit any socially dangerous acts in the same period.

Mr. Kotenkov highlighted that it had been suggested that the amnesty should not extend on foreign hirelings as well as those who committed murders, rapes and other grave and especially grave crimes.

According to him, the amnesty will be applied in a standard order and comply with the established rules.
