Moscow stresses necessity to bring Iraq problem back into UN legal field

Moscow is stressing the necessity to bring the Iraq problem back into the UN legal field.

Now it is important to overcome the split caused by the situation around Iraq, and to bring the Iraq problem back into the UN legal field, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Igor Ivanov stated speaking at a meeting of the Interaction Council in Moscow.

"The recent summit meetings in St. Petersburg and Evian (France) showed that the world's largest states have common strategic interests, which they place above separate differences on some or other tactical questions," the Minister said.

Ivanov highlighted the role of the Interaction Council, which unites the former heads of state and government of the countries of the world, in strengthening the unity of the international community. "No one has ready recipes here, and for this reason your advice and recommendations on that score would be of great importance," the Minister said.
