The Russian coast guard has released more than 10,500 species of live crabs seized from the Sakhalin fishing vessel Kuznetsovo, reported the press center of the Pacific Regional Department of the Federal Border Service.
The ship was detained off the eastern coast of Sakhalin with more than 15,000 crabs in its hold. Some of the crabs, who had already died, will be sold, with the earnings going to the federal budget.
Law enforcers have launched an investigation. The guilty party will have to pay damage done to Russian biological resources.
