Moscow concerned over Israel air raids on Gaza

Moscow is concerned over Israel's air raids on Gaza, runs the statement of Russian foreign ministry spokesman Nikolai Trutsuk, circulated Tuesday.

"These developments cause deep regret and increasing concern in Moscow," said the ministry spokesman.

He expressed condolences to the families of perished civilians and to those injured.

It is crystal clear that the non-proportionate use of weapons and force will not stop terrorism or bring peace either to the Palestinians or the Israelis, Trutsuk noted. On the contrary, he continued, all this will spark off confrontation, new tragedies and sufferings of the Palestinian and Israeli people, the diplomat asserted.

Officials in Moscow are convinced that the logic of military confrontation should be changed as soon as possible. "There is a way out of the dead-end, and it is actively supported by the international community," the Russian diplomat remarked. "But this requires the political will of both sides and their commitment to roadmap obligations.

In the past 24 hours, Israel's air raids on Gaza left 11 Palestinians dead, and over 100 wounded, including many women and children, the Russian foreign ministry spokesman said.
