In 2002, cargo turnover on the railroads governed by the Ministry of Railroads of Russia increased by 5.5% year-on-year. This is according to the statement made yesterday at a press conference by Gennady Fadeyev, Russia's Minister of Railroads. The minister believes the growth was due to increased cargo flow towards the Large Seaport of St. Petersburg and, correspondingly St. Petersburg's railway stations.
The minister said that over this January, cargo turnover had increased by 8% on the year and would probably grow by 4% year-on-year over 2003.
