Eurasian Economic Community Prime Ministers Meeting Today in Moscow

A meeting of the Eurasian Economic Community's (EurAsEC) International Council, featuring prime ministers, is take place today in Moscow. It will be preceded by a session of the integration committee, featuring EurAsEC countries' deputy prime ministers. This was announced yesterday at a briefing to journalists in Minsk by Andrei Savinykh, the deputy head of the Belarussian Foreign Ministry's press department.

According to Savinykh, one of the key issues to be discussed is a document outlining the priority directions for EurAsEC's medium-term development. Savinykh said that cooperation between EurAsEC countries between 2003 and 2006 'will concentrate on forming a customs union, running a coordinated economic policy, increasing collaboration in the real sector of the economy, joint development of the energy sector, and also forming a transport union and realizing EurAsEC's transit potential, agricultural cooperation, forming a common capital market, and collaboration over immigration policy and in the social sector.'

Russia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs is seriously concerned about the state of health of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Sergei Skrypal's niece, Victoria Skripal, said that her uncle had already died.
