A special operation to arrest participants in illegal armed formations and confiscate weapons and ammunition is being held in the Chechen village of Alkhan-Yurt (10km from Grozny.) This information was disclosed on Wednesday by Shirvani Yasayev, the head of Urus-Martan administration.
According to him, federal troops have blocked the perimeter of the village. Free movement within the village has been restricted. Servicemen participating in the operation, are checking passports and searching the houses of suspicious persons. Yasayev stressed that the operation was selective.
According to Yasayev, the situation in Alkhan-Yurt is under control, but rather tense.
