Frontier Guard in Russia's North-West Not to Be Reinforced

The frontier guards in Russia's northwest will not be reinforced despite NATO's enlargement, said Head of the Russian Frontier Service Konstantin Totsky on Thursday.

"We informed our foreign colleagues that the basic component of the frontier guard at the Finnish and Norwegian sections of the border would be reduced," Totsky said.

"Finland's border is a border with a friendly country and there is no need to reinforce the guard there," said the Head of the Russian Frontier Service.

In his turn Finland's Chief of the Frontier Guard Hannu Ahonen noted that Finland did not aspire for NATO's membership, and nobody invited it to join the alliance.

At present, Konstantin Totsky is in the Leningrad Region for a working meeting with his Finnish counterpart.

He announced his intention to create a news service called "Pravda," which means "truth" in Russian. Well, we are Pravda. The Pravda.Ru website has been working professionally in Russia since 1999
