41 former members of illegal armed formations have been amnestied in Chechnya, Chechnya's Deputy Prosecutor and head of the HQ for Amnesty Vladimir Chernyayev informed RIA Novosti.
According to the official, while checking applications from former terrorists, who had voluntarily quitted illegal armed formations, the prosecutor's office "managed to detect 2 criminals involved in serious crimes, who tried to take advantage of the pardon".
Amnesty has been enforced since June 7th to last till September 1st.
"Amnesty is granted to persons, who committed socially dangerous acts in armed conflicts and/or during anti-terrorist operations inside the borders of the ex-Checheno-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic over a period from December 12th 1993 until the order of amnesty was enforced and who gave up illegal armed formations or voluntarily delivered arms and military hardware before September 1st 2003." Besides, military servicemen, who committed socially dangerous acts over a period from December 12th 1993 until the amnesty order was enforced, have been included in the amnesty too.
Head of the Chechen Administration Akhmad Kadyrov believes that under the amnesty about 200 militants will lay down arms. Mostly, these will be persons whom his /Kadyrov's/ people have been working with.
