Kaskol Group's Chairman: Russia Has Lost Her Aviation Industry

Speaking at a press conference after the opening of the Russia-France aviation forum in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Sergei Nedoroslev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kaskol group of companies, said, 'Russia must once again occupy the place on the market of aviation components she is entitled to'.

Mr. Nedoroslev believes Russia's chances to find herself in that place are good. What makes them good are the large reserves, schools, and traditions that have been preserved in the country.

He said that 'The world market of aviation components is now worth USD 100 billion a year'. Mr. Nedoroslev continued to say that 'Twenty years ago we accounted for nearly 40% of that market, now just 2%. We produced about 20% of the world's civilian aircraft while now we annually make only 4 or 5 aeroplanes. This is to say that we have lost the aviation industry we once had'. However, Mr. Nedoroslev is convinced that the only thing that is needed 'to assure the creation of a new strong aviation industry in Russia capable of occupying a dignified place on the world market' is a change in the country's market strategy.
