Vnukovo Airport CEO steps down after plane crash

 

Vnukovo Airport CEO Andrei Dyakov and his deputy Sergei Solntsev left their posts, the press service of the airport said.

"In connection with the tragic accident  that occurred on October 20 overnight CEO of International Airport Vnukovo Andrey Dyakov and Deputy Director General, Lieutenant General Sergei Solntsev sent in resignation," a message from Vnukovo Airport administration said.

Several other officials and employees responsible for engineering services of the airdrome lost their jobs as well, RIA Novosti reports.  

Andrei Dyakov, who came to work at Vnukovo airport complex 18 years ago, chaired the airport in 2005. His deputy, Sergei Solntsev, is lieutenant general in reserve, sniper pilot, honored military pilot.

The head of French company Total, one of the world's largest oil companies, Christophe de Margerie - was killed in the plane crash at Vnukovo Airport. His private jet into the snow-removing vehicle, which, according to the Russian Investigative Committee, a drunk driver was driving. Three other people were killed in the crash, all of them were French nationals.

Five people were arrested within the scope of investigation: the snowplow driver, chief engineer of airport terminal services, who was responsible for snow removal, the head of the flight control service of the airport, as well as her mentor and the flight control dispatcher, a trainee, who was managing air traffic at the time of the crash.
