176 pounds of TNT found in Russian apartment

Russian police discovered a cache of about 80 kilograms (176 pounds) of TNT, 20 Kalashnikov automatic rifles and 40 grenades in a Moscow apartment, authorities said Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the apartment had belonged to a World War II veteran who had died, police spokesman Kirill Sharov said.

The apartment's occupant had died in prison, ITAR-Tass news agency reported, citing city prosecutors.
