Russian Foreign Ministry hopes to continue cooperation in building plants of chemical disposal in Russia

Russian Foreign Ministry expressed the hope for the "same fruitful international cooperation in the future, concerning the constructions of the new objects for chemical disposal" as it was in the case with the putting into operation of the new Russian Plant for Disposal of Chemical Arms in the village Gorny of Saratov district /Volga region/. This was disclosed in the report sent to RIA Novosti on Tuesday by the Russian Foreign Ministry Department of Information and Press.

On December 19th, in the village Gorny in the Saratov region the first Russian Plant for the Disposal of Chemical Arms was put into operation, the Russian Foreign Ministry disclosed. In the near future the plant is planned to eliminate 1% of total Russian stock of chemical arms.

The Russian Government took all the necessary measures for the priority financing and technical provision for the construction of this important object, the report states.

The Russian side gratefully appreciates its foreign partners, particularly Germany, Netherlands and other EU countries, for the technical support in Gorny. "It would be expedient to spread this experience for the fulfilment of the international cooperation within the framework of the program "Global Partnership", adopted at the "G-8" summit in Kananaskis in 2002, in order to fight with the spreading of weapons and materials of mass destruction," the Russian Foreign Ministry outlined.

The Plant for the Disposal of Chemical Arms in the Gorny village of the Saratov district is another weighty proof of Russia's commitment to its international obligations, drawn by the Convention on Chemical Arms Prohibition, and first of all obligations concerning the full and the soonest elimination of arms of the kind, the report states.
