Sultan Bashirov, member of the district department of education, was killed last night in Vedeno, a district centre in Chechnya. Kazbek Selimov, administration head of the district, told RIA that last night a group of unidentified men stormed into Bashirov's house and shot him from a Kalashnikov gun. In Selimov's words, the situation in that mountain region had deteriorated. In the past 24 years the bandits killed Asma Zukhairayeva, who worked in the local military recruitment office. She was killed in front of her mother. The bandits also set fire to the house of Mairbek Turayev, member of the local administration they had killed some time before. Selimov says the bandits have launched "a genuine hunt" for state officials in the district.
