The overall approaches of salmon fishes of all the breeds to the spawning rivers of the Far-Eastern basin of Russia do not promise to be particular abundant this year - within the limits of 180,000-240,000 tons, RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Kamchatka Region's administration on Friday.
On the basis of the data provided by the regional scientific-research centres, the participants in the meeting of the Far-Eastern Scientific-Fishing Council held in the State Committee on Fishing discussed the overall forecast of the approach of salmons.
Kamchatka accounts for 22,220 tons.
The Scientific-Fishing Council mapped out the volumes of caviar to be removed from industrial turnover for laying into the incubators of the fish-hatcheries, discussed the organisation of the salmon-fishing season of 2003, and considered last year's statistics on poaching and the plans to counter poachers during the forthcoming fishing season.
The possibility of repetition of the complex fishing season of the last year when the Far-Eastern fishermen could not receive in proper time the permission to start catching, and correct the volumes of catches depending on the real approaches of fish caused concern of the specialists of the fishing department of the administration of the Kamchatka Region who participated in the meetings.
