Russian energy authorities take power cuts under control

According to preliminary information, uncontrollable power cuts in Moscow and nearby regions were taken under control, member of the RAO UES Russia board Andrei Trapeznikov said.

There is a 10% lack of electric energy in Moscow, he added.

"Yesterday's fire at the Chagino substation in the Kapotnya district (Moscow's southeast) caused the power cuts, as far as we know for now," Trapeznikov said. According to him, workers of the substation commissioned in 1963 repaired and restarted the equipment themselves and eliminated consequences of a short circuit.

"The scale of the breakdown increased as electric energy supplies grew this morning," Trapeznikov said. In his words, the Moscow, Tula and Kaluga region were affected.
