The international Investing in North-West Russia: the Kaliningrad Perspective conference opens today in Kaliningrad. According to Rosbalt's correspondent, the forum was initiated by the East-West institute, the President's representative for the North-West District, and the Kaliningrad regional administration.

The forum will involve representatives of federal ministries, domestic and foreign business circles, and leading European banks. Three sections are planned: Improving the management mechanisms of the Kaliningrad Region special economic zone, Budget transparency as a means of improving the investment climate, and A presentation of investment projects. The last section will feature over 100 business plans.

Investors have shown most interest in projects to construct a car and railway ferry link between Ust-Luga (Leningrad Region), Baltiisk and German ports, to create an underground gas-storage facility in the region, and to create a recreational nature complex for tourists on the Baltic Spit.
