Kola Power Plant's first unit placed into operation

The first energy unit of the Kola Power Plant, situated in the heart of the Kola Peninsula, whose northern extremity protrudes into the Barents Sea, has been placed into operation, a source in the Kola Power Plant reported on Monday.

Prior to that, emergency shutdown of the plant's first energy unit was investigated by a commission from the State Nuclear Inspection, which concluded that the energy unit went out of operation because of failures in its general de-energization system. This malfunction occurred as a result of the faulty transformer with a voltage of 15.75 kV in the measuring circuit. No equipment damages were reported.

The second energy unit was shut down on May 16th for regular major repairs, which are expected to take 90 days.

As of today, the Kola Power Plant generates 880 mWatt in compliance with the operations schedule. Three of the plant's energy units are in operation.

The radiation background on the premises of the power plant and the adjacent territory complies with the natural parameters.
