Death Toll After Floods in Southern Russia Increases to 86

As a result of the floods in southern regions of Russia, the death toll yesterday afternoon stood at 68 people. This was announced by the Russian Ministry of Extreme Situations.

As a result of torrential rains between June 19 and 23, the floods submerged the Stavrapol and Krasnodar Regions, the Chechen Republic, Adigeya, Kabardino-Balkariya, Karachayevo-Cherkessia, Ingushetiya and Northern Osetiya. The water level of the rivers only began to drop on Monday, June 24.

Around 200,000 people suffered as a result of the floods, according to the Ministry of Extreme Situations. 3,157 homes and 3,919 other buildings were severely damaged. Around 40,000 homes in 236 residential areas were underflooded.

86,000 people were evacuated from flooded zones. All of them received hot food and medical help, according to the information press-service of the Ministry for Emergency Situations. The Ministry continues to provide humanitarian aid in the form of canned meat, bread, blankets, tents and medicine.
