Russia will want time some to assess possible economic implications of the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.
The adoption of Kyoto Protocol documents on cutting carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere is very much due to Russia's active position in this matter, Russian Vice-Premier Viktor Khristenko told a RIA Novosti press conference. Russia will decide whether or not to join the protocol only upon minute assessment of all the pros and cons related to its commitments under the protocol.
Moscow's steps in this direction have to be agreed with Russia's energy strategy and the average-term program for its economic development, said Khristenko.
"Economic examination will take time. But it will not take years and a decision can be taken much faster," he said.
