Tatarstan and Colorado Discuss Economic Cooperation

A delegation from the US state of Colorado, headed by Governor Bill Owens, is today visiting Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. According to the press office of the republic's Ministry for Trade and Foreign Economic Cooperation, the guests will meet with Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov, Farid Mukhametshin, the speaker of the republic's parliament, and Trade and Foreign Economic Cooperation Minister Khafiz Salikhov. At the meeting they will examine opportunities for developing trade and economic cooperation between the republic and Colorado, as well as questions concerning federalism.

The ministry's press office told Rosbalt that the US is one of Tatarstan's main trade partners. In recent years Tatarstan has supplied the US with synthetic rubber, ferrous metals, ethylene polymers, rubber tyres and other products. The US exports mechanical and electrical equipment, measuring instruments, and cars to Tatarstan. There are currently over 30 companies registered in Tatarstan with American capital. The republic's permanent representative office in the US was established in 1994 by a decree of the Tatarstan cabinet.
