Nizhny Novgorod Defence Companies Get 60% Rise in State Orders

Companies forming the military-industrial complex in the Nizhny Novgorod Region have received 60% more state orders this year than last year. This was revealed to Rosbalt's correspondent today by the Nizhny Novgorod Region's Ministry for Industry and Innovation.

According to Vladimir Tikhonov, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Ministry for Industry's department for the military-industrial complex, orders for carrying out transitional and new research and development work have been received this year not just by research institutes, but also by factories, for example the Gorky Car Plant. Orders for large-scale production of military equipment have also been increased by about two thirds this year.

Tikhonov believes that the main credit for this belongs to the management of companies, research institutes and design bureaus belonging to the region's military-industrial complex, who have managed to maintain their production capabilities. 'The government only places orders with firms that can guarantee quality and meet deadlines,' stressed Tikhonov. The increase in state arms orders is extremely important for the region's military complex, and the growth in production volumes will allow the region to ensure social stability. According to the Nizhny Novgorod Region's Ministry for Industry and Innovation, state arms orders have increased by one third on average across Russia as a whole.
