The Russian Foreign Ministry has finished negotiations to organise a visa-free transit via Lithuania for Russian trains going from Moscow to Kaliningrad and back /the Kaliningrad region is Russia's enclave in the Baltic/.
The Russian party achieved everything it could at the talks, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Razov at a press conference in Kaliningrad on Friday. Razov headed the Russian delegation at all stages of the talks. A very important issue has been resolved for Kaliningrad citizens: the visa-free railway transit comes into force from July 1st. Time will show how feasible it is.
According to Razov, he personally checked all communication systems, provision of tickets to Kaliningrad in advance at a Moscow railway station, watched the atmosphere at the booking offices in Kaliningrad and found no serious objections. Out of the 13,000 tickets sold in advance for trains going via Lithuania, there was only one denial.
At present, the problem of children's transit is being solved. A simplified scheme will be applied to them, and the Russian authorities expect to receive its official approval on June 28th-29th.
