In the Chelyabinsk region, a unique investment project in the energy sector has been implemented. A special ceremony was conducted to launch the second, 420 MW, combined-cycle power generating unit of the Southern Ural Hydroelectric Power Plant, GRES-2.
Electric power from GRES-2 will be supplied not only to towns and settlements of the Chelyabinsk region, but also to the Sverdlovsk Region and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"Any appearance of newer, rather than a renovated old enterprise, is certainly a reserve in emergent situations. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to have additional power generation, - Nikolai Kharitonov, chairman of the Committee for Regional Policy and Affairs of the North of the State Duma of the Russian Federation told Pravda.Ru. - If we can provide the Chelyabinsk region, the Urals, the Russian body armor, with electricity, even with excessive electricity, why not selling electric power to the brotherly Kazakhstan and make money from it? Yet, I always attach first priority to our own interests in the first place."
"The launch of a new generating facility is always a good event, especially, if there is a possibility to sell electricity abroad. Therefore, we can only congratulate the region," Yuri Lipatov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy told Pravda.Ru.
Efficient energy development will make it possible to intensify investment process and facilitate economic growth. Additional income in the budget will be used to improve social infrastructure for Chelyabinsk region residents.
