Russian Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov and Minister for Nuclear Energy Alexandre Rumyantsev left yesterday for Novaya Zemlya as part of a visit to the Arkhangelsk Region. The delegation will inspect the Novaya Zemlya missile range, learn about the way of life of the local workers, and discuss perspectives for this military base.

The construction of a processed nuclear waste storage facility is planned on the missile range, at a cost of USD 70 million. Specialists say that this project will improve economic conditions in Severodvinsk. Processed nuclear waste is currently stored on the Mironov Hill near the town.
