'Russia will have enough submarines to guarantee its national security,' announced Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov at the weekend. He made the announcements to journalists while on a military flight to Severomorsk, the headquarters of the Northern Fleet.
The fleet's press office told Rosbalt that the defence minister stressed that Russia has a programme for building new submarines and equipping them with modern weapons systems. According to Ivanov, testing of missile systems for the next generation of nuclear submarines will begin in the near future.
