Bashkirian parliament adopts bill preserving presidency institution in first reading

The legislative chamber of the State Assembly of Bashkortostan, a republic in the Volga federal district, on Thursday adopted in the first reading a bill on introducing amendments to the republic's constitution, preserving the institution of presidency.

When presenting the bill, deputy chairman of the Bashkirian parliament's legislation, state building and justice committee Fanil Tayepov pointed out that about 600 proposals and observations, mainly concerning the organization of the state power in the republic, had been made when discussing the bill.

Having analysed them, the committee introduced a clause to preserve the current institutions of state power to the bill, Tayepov said. At the same time the bill extends the functions of the legislation, and strengthens the executive power. The President, in compliance with the bill, is simultaneously head of the government and top executive of the republic.
