In the next year state's order to military industries "will be maintained and increased by approximately thirty per cent" in comparison with this year, Vice Premier, Minister of Industry, Science and Technologies Ilya Klebanov said Saturday during a press conference in Moscow. Klebanov did not spell out specific numbers, alluding to secret entries in the budget. He stressed, however, that the sum total of next year's budget is exactly even with the estimate of the Security Council dating back to August of 2000. Then, the Security Council thoroughly analysed Russian GDP for the following decade; specific numbers of ordered military production were derived from that. "We are positive that requirements of the order for 2002 can be fulfilled," Klebanov remarked. Answering the journalists' questions on the possibility of setting up a ministry for military industries, Klebanov stressed that this project is futile. The Vice Premier thinks that the duties of such a ministry are successfully fulfilled by correspondent departments of various military services created two and a half years ago. Klebanov stressed, however, that the work of those departments must be improved. A new organ will be created within the ministry of industries for that purpose; its task will be to put the work of the departments in concord, not to replace them, he underlined.
