Territory of landfills in Russia equal to several small countries

It is workers from China who are mainly responsible for illegal landfills in Russia's Primorye region (the Far East).

The department of Rosselkhoznadzor for the region found 166 illegal landfills on agricultural lands in 2012. In total, the area of landfills made up 1,270 hectaresб officials said.

Seasonal agricultural workers from China are primarily responsible for the garbage. The main type of garbage in this case is plastic films used to cover agricultural crops, plastic cups from seedlings, plastic bags, plastic bottles and cans of pesticides and agricultural chemicals, boxes, construction debris, car parts, remains of fuel and lubricants and household garbage.

As many as 133 landfills with a total area 1,060 hectares have already been removed.
