CEC to investigate situation in Krasnoyarsk
Officials from Russia's Central Electoral Commission are leaving for Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, on Tuesday to investigate the situation after Sunday's cancelling of results of the gubernatorial election by the territorial Electoral Commission.
The task facing the CEC officials is to give a legal assessment to the local Electoral Commission's decision to annul the results of the gubernatorial election, which was won by Taimyr leader Alexander Khloponin.
Yesterday, CEC head Alexander Veshnyakov referred to the decision as "dubious, to put it mildly." He did not rule out that it could have been pressed by "groups that were not satisfied with results of the election." Khloponin has already announced his intention to lodge an appeal against the Electoral Commission's decision to the CEC and justice authorities.
