About 1,500 take part in protest action in Moscow after Navalny sentence

About 1,500 people took part in the unauthorized action of protest against the verdict against well-known opposition activist Alexei Navalny and his brother Oleg Navalny. The protest action took place in the center of Moscow, on Manezhnaya Square, near the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square.

According to RBC, police detained about 170 people for disturbing public order. Alexei Navalny arrived to Manezhnaya Square too, in violation of the terms of his house arrest.

"The police arrested Navalny, who violated the regime of house arrest. He will be delivered to the place of his official residence," officials said.

On December 31, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow announced the verdict on the case of cosmetic maker Yves Rocher. Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 3.5 years of imprisonment conditionally and a fine of 500,000 rubles.

His brother Oleg Navally was sentenced to 3.5 years in a penal colony, as well as a fine of 500,000 rubles.
