The Russian Federation's Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov is to negotiate with his Icelandic counterpart Halldor Asgrimsson here today. The Foreign Minister of Iceland is now paying an official visit to Russia. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman, the talks' agenda includes all aspects of bilateral relations, as well as a number of international issues. The joint fight against international terrorism and the settlement of the situation around Afghanistan is perceived as a key issue. Strategic-stability issues, the need for preserving the 1972-vintage ABM (Anti-Ballistic Missile) Treaty and the Mideastern situation will also be discussed. Quite possibly, both Ministers will discuss preparations for the Russian visit of Iceland's President, slotted for early 2002.
