Russian Concern to Build Hydro-Plant in Mexico

Russia's power engineering concern "Silovye Mashiny" from St. Petersburg, within an international consortium, and Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission have concluded a contract for the construction of a turn-key hydro-electric power station in El Cajon, said the concern's press-service.

It said the cost of the contract is 750 million dollars. Silovye Mashiny's share is over 140 million dollars.

Silovye Mashiny undertakes to supply all electrical, mechanical and auxiliary equipment for two hydrounits of 375 MW each.

Design work, manufacture, assembly and testing of equipment will be done by the Elektrosila plant, which is a member of the concern, as also by Ukrainian and Brazilian companies making power equipment.

Under the contract, the scheme is to be put into commercial operation in 2007. It will be supplying electricity to industrial enterprises.
