Russia Changes List Of Commodities That Can Be Used To Produce Chemical Weapons And Missiles

The Russian State Customs Committee has introduced changes to the list of commodities that can be used to produce chemical weapons and missiles and are subject to export controls. This was done to implement the degree by the Russian president of August 28, 2001, which identified "the list of chemicals, equipment, and technology, which can be used to produce chemical weapons and are subject to export controls," the State Customs Committee told RIA Novosti on Tuesday. The list of chemicals, equipment, and technology was created by the Russian government "to protect national interests and provide for Russia's meeting its international obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction." The list is also in line with Article 6 of the Federal Law on Export Control, the Committee said. The presidential decree does not cover transfers of publicly available information or basic research, published in the press. Similar changes have been introduces in accordance with the presidential decree of August 8, 2001. The decree listed equipment, materials, and technology that can be used to produce missiles and are subject to export controls.
