Washington does not rule out Russian energy imports

Washington considers Russia as a reliable energy supplier and in this connection does not rule out possible imports of Russian fuel to the American market, including the U.S. state reserve. The press service of the Russian Energy Ministry reported Tuesday that such was the topic of the meeting between Russian energy minister Igor Yusufov and U.S. vice-president Dick Cheney held in Washington. In the course of the talk the sides expressed their readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation in energy markets of the third countries. Yusufov highly appraised Cheney's role in developing the U.S. national energy strategy. Cheney in turn hailed Russia's preparedness to discuss the problem of stabilising energy resources deliveries to reduce fluctuation of the world oil prices. The Russian minister noted that the problem of Russian-U.S. investment cooperation becomes a key one for the energy sphere. He referred to Cheney's letter sent to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov in which the U.S. vice-president noted the operation of the Caspian pipeline consortium and Sakhalin projects as a positive example of such cooperation. Igor Yusufov also noted the positive potential accumulated by the Russian-U.S. bilateral commission for cooperation in energy sphere set up in November 2001. Its latest session was held in early April in the USA.
