The high-speed railway from the Paveletsky Railway Terminal in Moscow to the Domodedovo airport will be opened on August 1, 2002. Moscow Railroad and the East Line group of companies have constructed this railway. The reconstruction of the Red hall in the Paveletsky Railway Terminal is to be completed very soon, the press service of Moscow Railroad reported. The Red hall will be a departure point for air passengers of the Domodedovo airport. Booking offices and a registration terminal is to be opened in the hall.
It will take some 40 minutes for passengers to get to the airport from the Paveletsky Terminal. Trains are expected to leave for the airport every hour. The cost of a train ticket, 50 rubles (about $1.58), will be included in the cost of an air ticket. A passenger will be able to leave his luggage at the Railway Terminal and receive it at his destination point.
According to Sergey Kozyrev, deputy head of Moscow Railroad, the company has spent some 500m rubles ($15.8m) on this project.
The choice of the city of Helsinki is not incidental as the capital of Finland had hosted US-Soviet negotiations on the limitation of nuclear stockpiles in 1969
