Golden Telecom to build Bee Line GSM network in St. Petersburg

Golden Telecom will be the contractor of a project on constructing Bee Line GSM transit network in St. Petersburg, the press service of Golden Telecom reported. The project will be implemented jointly with the St. Petersburg operator PTS. Golden Telecom is to build a network of base stations in the city and the region with a central switch exchange and a base stations' controller. It is planned to connect about 150 base stations in a short period. The network is expected to be put into operation not later than the second quarter of 2003. According to preliminary estimations, after the project is accomplished, the combined capacity of St. Petersburg telecom networks will exceed corresponding figures of networks in other Russian cities. Golden Telecom is an alternative provider of voice and data transmission services in Russia's largest cities. Moreover, the company provides Internet access for individuals and corporate clients.
