Canadian Superior Energy Inc. has completed initial drilling and side-tracking operations on its "Marquis Project" Offshore Nova Scotia.
"Canadian Superior's "Marquis" L-35/L-35A test well which commenced drilling on July 8, 2002 is being abandoned after having encountered porosity and Abenaki reef reservoir. We are optimistic about the initial results of the "Marquis" test well and are very confident that the "Marquis" L-35/L-35A test well has enhanced the prospectivity and the value of our "Marquis Blocks", in spite of the fact that commercial hydrocarbons have not been tested in the Marquis L-35/L-35A wellbore." said Mike Coolen, Canadian Superior's Director of East Coast Operations.
The Company indicated that three industry wells are proposed for drilling directly offsetting both sides of Canadian Superior's "Marquis Blocks" and the Company's "Mariner Block" which will evaluate the Abenaki reef and due to the competitive nature of the prospect, Coolen said further information on the project would not be released at this time. However, Coolen did say drilling operations on the Canadian Superior operated "Marquis" L-35/L-35A test well had been completed in record time, safely and under budget and he indicated that Canadian Superior would be proceeding ahead as soon as possible with drilling on the Company's "Mariner Block" and further drilling planned on "Marquis."
Canadian Superior's "Marquis Prospect" is located approximately 12.5 miles northwest of Sable Island and is directly on trend and analogous to the Deep Panuke Abenaki Reef Natural Gas Discovery, approximately 15.6 miles to the southwest where four wells have been successfully drilled with productive capacity each in excess of 50 MMCF/D. The Deep Panuke discovery is expected to produce up to 400 MMCF/D when it is brought on line. Canadian Superior's "Marquis" Prospect is in shallow water depths (less than 100 meters) in close proximity to existing pipeline infrastructure connecting approximately 500 MMCF/D of Sable Island natural gas to vibrant New England natural gas markets
