Russian Railways Ministry completes the construction of the Far Eastern segment of its single mainline digital communication network

The Russian Railways Ministry has completed the construction of the Far Eastern segment of its single mainline digital communication network.

As the press service of the Far Eastern Railway has told RIA Novosti this Friday, the Railways Ministry began the construction of its Far Eastern single communication network back in June 1999. Over the period of three years the Railways Ministry has laid 5,080 km of fiber-optic transmission lines and put into operation 14 support systems.

The Far Eastern segment of the communication network is controlled from the control regional centre in Khabarovsk.

Overall, the single mainline communication network of the Railway Ministry, which is almost 45,000 km long, covers 70 regions of Russia and crosses the territory which is home to 90 percent of the population of Russia. Moscow serves as the place for control and monitoring.

The single mainline network will make it possible both to control the cargo flow in Russia and receive modern telecommunications services in real time, including access to the global information space, electronic paperwork and video conferences.

In the final count, this will make it possible to raise the safety of carriages, and the quality of passenger and cargo servicing.
