The Rosoboroneksport association views the AAD'2002 international aerospace and defence exhibition, to take place on September 18th-22nd in South African republic, as an important stage in the military-technical cooperation with African countries, a Rosoboronexport representative reported.
He stressed that bearing in mind the active marketing strategy, "our enterprise seeks to expand and strike a balance between the geography and the nomenclature of Russian supplies of weapons and military hardware and in the new economic conditions to make a return to the African market lost after the USSR disintegration." According to the Rosoboroneksport leadership, cooperation with African countries has lately changed for the better. There has been an upsurge in cooperation with such Russian weapons importers as Angola, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Uganda.
Moreover, Rosoboroneksport has taken specific measures to promote Russian military and dual machinery in a number of African countries.
"In military-technical cooperation with countries that have their own bases for military production and weapons and military hardware repair /South African Republic, Nigeria and Ethiopia/, Rosoboroneksport coordinates integration links between the defence sectors of Russian and African industries," the representative noted.
He cited the cooperation between Russian and South African air enterprises in modernising the Mirage F1 French fighter as an example of successful international military-industrial cooperation.
