Russia Presents Last Generation Electronic Ship Model at Defexpo India 2002

The OAO Baltiisky Zavod plant, St. Petersburg, will participate in an international exhibition of land and aerial weapons Defexpo India 2002 in Delhi. OAO Baltiisky Zavod will present a three-dimensional electronic model of a ship, prepared by CALS technological standards. As the press-centre of the plant informed, the exhibit is modelled after one of the compartments of a 11356-type frigate, three of which will be supplied to India in the near future. Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support (CALS) technology is an information system which permits electronic modelling of the ship during engineering and building stages, and which is supplied to the customer together with the finished product. The exhibited in Delhi model is a result of cooperation between OAO Baltiisky Zavod and the Northern Engineering Bureau. The model facilitates solving such problems like maintenance, spare parts order during servicing, logistical support and data base internet access, three-dimensional view and training, gathering information about firing and technical characteristics of the ship and its current status.

CALS is the most advanced information support system used in the shipbuilding. In creating the model, OAO Baltiisky Zavod used the Windchill software, supplied by the RTS company, US.

OAO Baltiisky Zavod's equity of $6,015 million is divided into 750,725 regular shares of about $8 par value. Its biggest shareholders are the Interregional Investment Bank (16.4% of shares), East-Polimetal group (54% of shares), IncomBank (9% of shares), 21% is owned by general public, and the 'golden share' is owned by the government.
