Largest Airport Storage Terminal in Europe to Be Constructed in Vnukovo, Moscow

The construction of the largest airport storage terminal in Europe is planned near the Vnukovo Airport. This was announced at a press conference on Tuesday by Yevgeni Gromov, President of the SATURN Implex company.

He said that the terminal will occupy 30 hectares of land, and have a volume of 5 million cubic metres. Half of this area will be occupied by low temperature warehouses. The dimensions of the terminal will allow the simultaneous loading and unloading of more than 150 vehicles and 16 train carriages. The creation of such a terminal, in Gromov's opinion, is a part of the infrastructural development necessary for Russia's entry into the WTO.

The company president said that USD 180 million will be invested towards the first stage of construction. Creditors include the Rothschild Bank and a range of Swedish and French firms. The total cost of the project, by the calculations of its creators, will come to USD 300 million, assuming that it will begin to make a profit within three years.

Gromov underlined that over half of the anticipated total sum, USD 160 million, will be spent directly on the construction of the terminal. The other funds will go towards developing the infrastructure. A hotel and a thousand-space car-park will be built near the terminal. Also, Gromov said, several flyovers will be built, via which cargo will be directed to the Kiev, Borovsk and Minsk highways.

The President of SATURN-Implex expressed his hope that the construction will get underway by the end of this year. It will then continue in stages over a period of eighteen months.
